i use cypress mulch (forest floor by zoo med). sand isn’t good for them…not sure what you mean by she shells if its sea shells no…even though a lot of people use newspaper the newsprint isn’t really good for your snake and its an ugly bedding.

cypress mulch i think is the best. if he’s not into digging, newspaper is ok. sand can get under their scales and irritate them. aspen shavings are ok to, sometimes it can irritate under their belly scales for larger snakes.

Yes, poop stinks. lol. Our snakes make quite the smell when they poop.
I use cypress mulch for all of my snakes, they love it. I clean out their cages daily, removing sheds, poops, and urates. Every six months I rinse out the cypress, and this does a very good job of cleaning it. Since cypress is not renewable, I figure this is the best way to protect the environment as well as give my snakes a happy home.
Cypress is the choice for a lot of snake owners because it doesn’t mold like Aspen can. It also holds moisture very well. Newspaper can be used, but it can stain your cage when you wet it down. It also doesn’t hold moisture all that well.
Avoid sand, pine, cedar, and other similar beddings at all costs. They can be very harmful to your snake, either to their skin, respiratory system, or by ingesting them.
